As a follow-up to Project IO, the Space Race programme was created to strengthen the educational side of the association: it consists of an annual friendly competition within ERT, where the aim is to have teams of students new to the world of aerospace design, build and launch their own home-made rockets. The teams are supervised by the more experienced members of the association to ensure a good knowledge transfer and a link with the other projects.
The 2020-21 edition gathered about 100 members divided into three teams: Cosmos, Vostok and Echo. The rockets built were designed to meet the requirements of the official Level 2 certification of the Tripoli Amateur Launchers Association, and had the objective of propelling a raw egg up to 1km in height and returning it intact to the ground. Mission accomplished for all three teams!
